YKK India held a groundbreaking ceremony as construction commences on its new plant in southern India. The business’ third plant in the country will be located near Chennai, in the state of Tamil Nadu.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 25 at the Origins Chennai industrial park, the business announced in a press release. The event welcomed 40 participants, including YKK India’s managing director Jin Deguchi.
The Tamil Nadu plant will operate in coordination with YKK India’s two existing plants in Haryana in northern India. Designed as a state-of-the-art facility, it will implement YKK’s technologies to cater to India’s domestic market and its export-oriented manufacturing market; both of which are expected to continue their growth trajectory.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, YKK India announced that the plant will create employment opportunities and contribute to the local community. The business has invested $150 million, which includes the land, buildings, machinery, equipment, and other costs. The plot’s land area spans 149,936 metres squared, with a building area of 74,658 metres squared, and its completion is scheduled for February 2028.
YKK was established in Tokyo in 1934 and specialises in the production of zippers, plastic hardware, hook and loop fasteners, webbing tapes, snaps, and buttons. Operating in approximately 70 countries/regions, the business founded YKK India Private Limited in 1995 with its headquarters in New Delhi. The business also has overseas offices in Nepal, Jordan, and Dubai.
